WIN! A 2025 adventure with Concept Hotel Group
Ibiza hoteliers Diego Calvo and Marc Rahola takes you on a journey to Miami, the Amalfi Coast, Palm Springs, Cuba and beyond, without ever leaving the island.
Holidays are one of life’s greatest pleasures, but when your annual leave is limited (not to mention your budget!), it’s so important to choose a destination you’re guaranteed to love. This is the exact reason so many Ibiza lovers choose the white isle year after year and who can blame them? From incredible beaches, stunning nature and iconic sunsets to the amazing gastronomic scene, the world’s best nightlife and the fascinating mix of people here, this beautiful island is a sure bet. If only it was possible to tack on a trip the Amalfi Coast, jet into Miami, salsa into Havana or cruise Route 66 during the same vacation. Enter Ibiza’s very own Concept Hotel Group…
If there’s one thing Diego Calvo knows about Ibiza (and trust us, he knows a lot), it’s that there are worlds within worlds to be discovered on this island. And he would know. The charismatic founder and CEO of Concept Hotel Group was born and raised in Ibiza, and he’s spent his entire career finding ways to proudly declare his love for the island while simultaneously redefining the rules of hospitality. The resulting venture is one of the most irreverent and impressive hotel groups in the global industry. Alongside his friend and business partner Marc Rahola, who joined him on the mission back in 2021, Diego shares the best of his beloved island with international holidaymakers and island residents while also taking them on a journey through some of the world’s most fascinating epochs. No extra plane tickets required.

There are eight unique and eclectic hotels sitting beneath the colourful Concept Hotel Group umbrella, each with its own bespoke aesthetic, yet all united by the same lively spirit that the brand has become renowned for. Calvo is a personality who naturally stands out from the crowd. Identifiable by his rockstar uniform of slicked-back quiff, black leather jacket and crisp jeans, it was perhaps inevitable that his hotel vision would be similarly stylised. It first came to realisation in the ever-evolving tourism hub of Playa d’en Bossa in 2013, at the (now shuttered) Santos, swiftly followed by Dorado – an intimate beachfront boutique hotel in which each of the 14 suites is an ode to rock music’s timeless classics that went gold (selling 500,000 copies or more). Decked out in white, blue and yellow hues, it’s easy to feel like you’ve stumbled backstage a gig – especially when tunes like Blondie’s Heart of Glass play every time a guest enters their room.
It’s attention to detail like this that’s come to define a Concept Hotel Groupproperty. After Dorado, Calvo wasn’t quite done with Bossa, so he embarked on his next hotel project just a few metres away on the same stretch of golden sand: Tropicana. This zesty-coloured paradise of lime and fuchsia is inspired by the Tom Cruise movie, Cocktail, and the iconic MiMo (Miami Modern) aesthetic. It sits somewhere between the glamour of Art Deco and the kitsch of Barbie’s Dream House (or Ken’s Mojo Dojo Casa House) and is quite possibly one of the most Instagrammable hotels on the south coast. There’s a vintage jukebox in the lobby, a martini glass-shaped poolside shower (where water flows through the straw), flamingos aplenty and naturally, a bar called Cocktails & Dreams.

Having made their colourful mark on the south coast, it was time for Calvo and the Concept Hotel Group crew to look to the west side of Ibiza. Cubanito was opened in Cala Gració, not only transporting guests to the sunset strip of Ibiza but also taking them right into the heart of the rhythm-filled streets of Havana in the 1950s. Rooms are named and inspired by legendary locations within Cuba’s kaleidoscopic capital, guests can witness the iconic Ibiza sunset from the sunset rooftop terrace restaurant, El Malecón, where live Cuban music, freshly muddled mojitos, Caribbean cuisine and salsa dancing is the order of the day and more importantly, night! Be sure to get snapped in the hotel’s light blue Cadillac DeVille, formerly owned by Roy Orbison (yes, really!), pose for pics in the checkerboard pool and – if you’ve got the skills – tinkle the ivories on the wooden piano in the mint green and salmon lobby.
The Concept Hotel Group journey gained more pace with the opening of Paradiso Ibiza Art Hotel, which invigorated the nearby west coast area of Cala de Bou. Embracing a 1980s Miami-inspired, Art Deco aesthetic, the hotel’s pastel pink façade, disco-infused soundtrack and forward-thinking urban art exhibitions, curated by Adda Gallery Paris and open to both guests and locals, launched on the global map. Just a hop, skip and a jive down the street, Grand Paradiso: The Movie Hotel pays homage to audiovisual art. Boasting its own cinema, Cinerama, with regular film and documentary screenings and discussions, each room here is dedicated to a famous filmmaker, with an additional audiovisual gallery to showcase the works of its collaborators. The pool is home to the now legendary Caduzzi, a hybrid of a hot tub and a bright pink Cadillac Eldorado that’s gone viral more than a few times on social media.
The two properties are joined by Venice Bay, a setting that evokes the bohemian style of the art-emblazoned basketball court in Paris’ Pigalle district. Home to the Dorado Live Shows concert series – another creative arm of Concept Hotel Group – it plays host to local and international acts like Crystal Fighters and Mando Diao every month on Thursdays. It culminates in Calvo’s own party, Rock Nights, a two-decades strong fiesta celebrating all things live music that serves as the perfect antidote to the island’s dance music-heavy landscape.
Back to hotels and just around the corner in San Antonio Bay, Romeo’s Motel and Diner is perhaps Concept Hotel Group’s most playful project to date. The roadside property is inspired by the iconic love motels that line Route 66 in the USA with 33 rooms featuring neon-lit headboards pay tribute to different highway stops. Its classic American in-house diner, Mandy’s, wouldn’t be out of place in a classic Tarantino flick, nor would the hotel’s carefully curated soundtrack. Delve a little deeper and dare to open a door you think should stay locked, and you’ll be rewarded with the discovery of The Playroom, a teensy space bedecked with leopard print sofas, a pole-dance bar and a DJ booth that’s designed to encourage naughtiness by night. Don’t be surprised if you end up tying the knot at the hotel’s Vegas-style chapel by the pool.

Now that the west was officially won, Concept Hotel Group to looked to the east, where one of its newest outposts, the beautifully laid-back Mongibello Hotel, evokes a different era and pace. Boasting a stunning seaside location and breathtaking panoramaic views over the Med, the boutique hotel’s luxurious la dolce vita vibe is inspired by the works of famed Italian architect Gio Ponti and the neoclassical style of the Amalfi Coast during the 1960s. Ibiza’s storied heritage plays into the property’s identity too, with each room named after a personality who helped shaped the island’s essence. Pacha founder, Ricardo Urgell, is honoured, for instance, alongside actor Ángela Molina and painter Antonio Villanueva. Elegant on the outside, mischievous on the inside, there’s a secret club that’s accessed through a mural in the lobby, adding to the sense of clandestine intrigue, while Sorella Ristorante, the in-house restaurant helmed by Sicilian chef Francesco T. Leggio, is a destination in its own right.
The final iteration of the Concept Hotel Group portfolio is back on the west coast in Cala de Bou. Los Felices: The Fashion Hotel, which opened in summer 2024, is dedicated entirely to the art of style and its design channels the mid-century chicness of Palm Springs in the 1960s and 1970s. Boasting 113 rooms decked out in an eye-pleasing clash of candy pinks and sunshine yellows and named after seasoned and emerging designers, it’s also home to its own fashion-forward retail therapy outlet, Les Fleurs Boutique, and Fashiontèque, a sartorialist’s dream brimming with curated fashion magazines and books. There’s a pastel-shaded Future House, inspired by Finnish architect Matti Suuronen’s work, and an onsite restaurant, Bámbola di Grosso Napoletano, where master pizzaiolos craft gluten-free Neapolitan pizzas in seriously glamorous surrounds.
Connoisseurs of crafting experiences that whisk guests to different periods and parts of the world while remaining firmly rooted in Ibiza, Concept Hotel Group’s affinity for Insta-worthy aesthetics paired with meaningful attention to detail make every trip a holiday within a holiday.
