Perched along the picturesque coastline of Siesta, on the cusp of Santa Eulalia, the five-star Hotel Mongibello has firmly established itself as the epitome of Italian elegance and charm in Ibiza. Its flagship eatery, Sorella Ristorante – a breathtaking balcony designed for alfresco dining and a retro-chic evening interior dining room – perfectly encapsulate the enchanting spirit of la dolce vita, while bringing the fresh flavours and elegant style of the Mediterranean to life.

Step inside Sorella Ristorante to be instantly transported to the Italy of the 1960s and 1970s; when style, glamour and decadent dining went hand in hand. Here, every meal is a special occasion at the hands of Sicilian chef Francesco T. Leggio, who takes guests on a gastronomic journey that traverses land and sea, while paying homage to his homeland’s traditional cuisine. Having honed his craft (and many would say art) in high-level kitchens such as Azurmendi and El Celler de Can Roca, he fuses his exceptional experience with family heritage, resulting in a menu where contemporary cuisine meets long-standing Italian tradition.

Open to hotel guests and outside visitors, Sorella Ristorante is a destination for true food lovers. In the mornings, a professional barista leads the new specialty coffee programme, ensuring breakfast is as much of a highlight as the rest of the day. From 11am, the poolside vibes are welcoming and relaxed – part Art Deco and part chiringuito, the Ibiza restaurant‘s breathtaking views over Es Caló De S’Alga beach and balmy Mediterranean breeze make it perfect for light, fresh and leisurely lunches. The launch of Il Chioschetto – the hotel’s sophisticated new poolside social hub – sees more pop-ups and culinary collabs taking place, and expert staff serve up oysters, caviar, sparkling wines and signature cocktails in a relaxed setting beneath the Balearic sun.

Sunset sips are essentials, with an array of summer spritzes vying for attention alongside all the classics, plus bespoke cocktails such as The Italian Job, a fusion of Martini Fiero, limoncello and passionfruit. The expanded wine list also showcases carefully selected Italian and international labels to complete the experience. When the sun goes down, take a seat within Sorella Ristorante, where warm wooden beams are juxtaposed with sleek vintage tiles and glossy gold fittings. The decadent dinner menu follows the classic Italian feasting courses of antipasti e insalate, pizza, principali, and then le paste and of course, dolci. Be sure to arrive with an appetite, and remember, there’s no rush. Savouring every mouthful is all part of the Ibiza restaurant’s dolce far niente ethos.

The chef’s now-iconic spaghetto alla carbonara con tartufo (truffle carbonara), based on his own family recipe, remains on the Sorella Ristorante menu this season, alongside the ever-popular lobster tagliatelle, while new additions include whisky-glazed beef sirloin, croaker with potato and chicory, and a beautifully balanced pepper risotto that proves vegetarian dishes can also be the star of the gastronomic show. While classic Italian cooking takes centre stage, Leggio also pulls focus to unique Ibiza ingredients such as rotja fish and porc negre (black pork). The summer season also sees the Ibiza restaurant host a series of acclaimed four-hands dinners, Maestri Ai Fornelli, where Leggio joins forces with guest chefs including Juan Quirós, Andrea Antonini and Teo Iannotta to create three exclusive menus – each available for one-night only.

No Italian dining experience is complete without dessert, and choosing between house-made tiramisu, a classic semifreddo or artisanal gelato flavours at Sorella Ristorante could prove to be the toughest decision of your holiday. Top it all off with an affogato, before heading out for a passeggiata to walk off all that indulgence, in true Italian style.
