Cala Molí, Ibiza
Urusai Sunset Bar
When golden hour settles across the glistening bay of Cala Molí on the southwest coast of Ibiza, the vibes pick up as music and sunset lovers make a beeline for Urusai Sunset Lounge, the new Japanese-inspired audiophile bar curated by island DJ Jaime Fiorito at El Silencio Ibiza.
As the sun begins its slow descent over the charming southwestern beach of Cala Molí, there’s a subtle shift in the air. Golden light shimmers on the sea while the low murmur of conversation and the soft crackle of vinyl coming from Urusai Sunset Bar start to fill the breeze. Just a few steps from the shoreline, this new, quietly striking, addition to El Silencio Ibiza is exactly what the island ordered: a vinyl-only listening bar inspired by Japanese hifi lounges. Here, you can kick back over zingy bespoke cocktails and umami-rich light bites while watching the Ibiza sunset and listening to carefully crafted Balearic soundtracks spun by the island’s most respected selectors.
While the view looking out to sea is breathtaking, looking inwards at Urusai Sunset Bar is equally as aesthetically rewarding, the visual identity having been shaped by creative director Olivier Leone, with architecture by Kulapat Yantrasast, a former protégé of the Japanese design icon, Tadao Ando. At the heart of the Ibiza sunset bar, a sculptural, minimalist column rises organically towards the roof – reminiscent of a tree trunk – surrounded by intimate low tables perfect for leaning in with friends over a Wasabi Margarita, Lychee Martini or sake, straight up.
The sound is rich and precise, courtesy of a state-of-the-art system designed for true listening pleasure. Audiophiles from Ibiza and around the globe will appreciate the attention to detail that’s gone into creating Urusai Sunset Bar – from the design, cocktails and cuisine, to the shelves lined with a vinyl collection that has been curated by island DJ, Jaime Fiorito. Each record has been sourced from the private collections of Balearic music icons, including two late musical legends: Fiorito’s late father, the legendary Alfredo (known as the father of the Balearic Beat) and José Padilla, the Café del Mar pioneer who was considered godfather of chill-out. Pacha’s DJ Piti and Ricardo Urgell, along with Concept Hotel Group’s Diego Calvo, have also contributed to the collection, making the nightly Ibiza sunset soundtrack every bit as memorable as the view.
As daylight fades, a hand-picked DJ begins weaving their own musical narrative from 6pm onwards, drawing from rare pressings and island classics to soundtrack the transition from afternoon warmth to night-time intrigue. Fiorito’s curation ensures every evening is unique, whether the selector is a local hero or a well-travelled guest packing crates of hidden gems. Locals gather, music loving holidaymakers arrive for the occasion, and some lucky beachgoers stumble across Urusai Sunset Bar by happy accident – however you find it, one thing’s for sure: once you’ve experienced an Ibiza sunset here, you’ll definitely be back for more.
When the sky deepens to indigo and the first stars start twinkling high above, Urusai Sunset Bar gently hands over to the adjoining Tokyo-esque tapas terrace, Urusai Izakaya. There, under the glow of amber paper lanterns, the night plays out slowly over a series of small plates designed to share, expertly chosen fine wines and sakes, making this little pocket of Cala Molí feel worlds away from the island’s more familiar fine dining scenes. By the time you step back onto the sand, shoes in hand, the sound of the waves is laced with the last notes from the decks and the vision of the Ibiza sunset is burned into your memory forever. Urusai Ibiza at El Silencio Ibiza celebrates the art of slowing down without ever losing its pulse.
