Mira by Gathering

Art and cuisine converge in San Miguel, where Mira by Gathering features an innovative menu made using locally sourced ingredients and matched with a rotation of international artists.

From ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs and Renaissance still life paintings to the undeniably fancy restaurants in the world’s most famous galleries, eating and art have always been intrinsically linked. Now, Ibiza locals and visitors can indulge in both at Mira by Gathering. This refreshingly chic Ibiza restaurant is located in San Miguel under the auspices of Gathering, an art space founded by curator Alex Flick as a continuation of his flagship premises in London and it promises to satiate appetites both physical and cultural.

The bright white gallery features a rotation of international shows while the pastel pink bar at Mira by Gathering attracts a different kind of attention. The bar was designed by British, Turner Prize-winning artist Tai Shani who infuses the otherwise minimalist space with just enough cheek via the colour scheme and globular breast-shaped pendant lights hanging voluptuously over the bar. The idea is that visitors meander through libations and nourishment to the art and back again, making Mira by Gathering more of an immersive creative experience than a stock-standard Ibiza restaurant.

Mira by Gathering is the ideal spot for sharing dishes while sipping on delicately crafted cocktails, themselves works of art. Ingredients are sourced locally wherever possible and the Ibiza restaurant’s chefs use them in the most imaginative ways via a frequently changing seasonal menu. Start with a plate of Gildas, then follow with chargrilled artichokes over Bearnaise sauce or slices of fresh xeixa bread, Iberico ham and locally sourced tomatoes. Heartier dishes might include an ingenious take on paella topped with sliced prawn, grilled entraña with chilli sauce, roasted cauliflower with tahini dressing and tuna belly skewers with escabeche.

Before dessert, consider taking a break to enjoy the art in the stunning exhibition space, which has featured works by artists such as Kristian Kragelund, Ranva Kunoy, Jennifer Tee, Bruce Nauman and Stefan Brüggemann. What better way to reflect on what your eyes have just ingested than with a little sweetness? Don’t miss the homemade almond ricotta served with roasted apricots, or the chocolate mousse with confit pear and hazelnut crumble. This fresh take on a dining concept is at the forefront of a renewed creative energy pulsating across the island. Mira by Gathering merges its artistic ambition with an equally innovative menu, firmly establishing itself as a must-visit Ibiza restaurant on the island’s globally recognised gastronomic scene.
