Located in a pretty pocket of Santa Gertrudis, Estudio Laterna is the result of a long-standing creative partnership between Andrea Sánchez and Ricardo Jarpa. The stylish Ibiza art gallery combines landscaping, architecture, design and contemporary art in a stunningly renovated old farmhouse. Shaped by Andrea’s background as a well-respected landscape designer, her gentle and grounded sensibility imbues the spaces with a sensual, natural beauty.

The gallery functions as a kind of ecosystem – part sculpture garden, part exhibition space, part refuge for contemplation and cultural exploration. Every detail at Estudio Laterna has been designed to support a slower, more attentive experience, with nature, art and architecture coexisting with beautiful balance. From the enchanting garden that features outdoor sculptures and seating to the entrance hall filled with comfy sofas and the lower-level gallery with its exhibition space, store and patio, this Ibiza art gallery is an exercise in creativeness and community connection.

Estudio Laterna aims to demystify art and pave a direct route for visitors to experience creativity up close. Shows unfold across painting, photography, sculpture and installation, from a plethora of local and international artists. Formentera based sculptor Enric Majoral has a permanent exhibition which has been joined by such names as Kelsey Brookes (USA), Ramon Enrich (Spain), Houshyar Kashani (Iran), Eduardo Chillida Belzunce (Spain) and Carlito Dalceggio (Canada) among others. Along with regular exhibitions, the beautiful Ibiza art gallery also operates as a community hub, hosting activities and events that encourage dialogue beyond the visual arts.

Programming at Estudio Laterna may include anything from experimental audiovisuals and book clubs to talks and readings. From ideas based on local stories to a wide range of international perspectives, the Ibiza art gallery reflects the diversity of the island. Alongside its exhibitions, Estudio Laterna boasts a thoughtfully curated concept store where discerning design lovers can pick up a wire frame chaise from Muller Van Severen, a clay vessel from Atelier Vierkant or jewellery designed by Enric Majoral and other stunning objets d’art, each piece echoing the gallery’s quiet elegance.

The Estudio Laterna bookstore is the best place on the island to pick up thought-provoking tomes. Covering themes such as photography, landscape design, architecture and artists’ biographies, it’s an ideal place to choose a gift for a loved one or for oneself. Children are well catered for, with books and games designed to pique their curiosity. Furnished with plush armchairs the bookstore is a warm and peaceful extension of the Ibiza art gallery and it’s easy to linger a little longer than intended.

As an Ibiza art gallery, Estudio Laterna offers an unhurried alternative to the island’s energetic pace. Openings at are low-key and relaxed, eschewing the elitism found elsewhere in the art world as people connect over shared ideas, stories and a love of beauty. The space is open to walk-ins throughout the year, welcoming residents, collectors, visitors and anyone simply curious to see and know more.
