Hot in here – Gordon Ramsay Hell’s Kitchen Ibiza
The acclaimed chef’s fire-fuelled fine dining concept turns up the heat at The Unexpected Ibiza Hotel in Playa d’en Bossa.
There’s something flickering on Playa d’en Bossa. A ripple of red. A glint of gold. A devilish ambience. This is Hell’s Kitchen Ibiza – the very first European outpost of the restaurant chain founded by acclaimed chef Gordon Ramsay and based on his hit TV show of the same name.
This red-hot new Ibiza restaurant is located within The Unexpected Ibiza Hotel, a newly transformed adults-only escape offering front-row seats to the island’s most dynamic stretch of sand, not to mention its most dazzling after-dark neighbourhood. Guests staying on-site can slip straight from suite to table, while those arriving from elsewhere are welcomed through the street-side entrance and quickly absorbed into the glamorous Hell’s Kitchen vibes – a drink at the bar and a glimpse of the flames all contributing to the anticipatory build-up for what’s coming next.

Ramsay was already very well-known across the UK, but the Hell’s Kitchen TV show is what catapulted him to fame in the USA. It made dinner service look like blood sport, but behind the soundbites and the shouting was something much more complex and interesting – a window into the pressure, choreography, precision and passion that drives a professional kitchen. Over more than two decades and 23 seasons (and counting), the show built a mythology around intensity and excellence, along with a cult-like international following.
At Hell’s Kitchen Ibiza, the spectacle seen on television is converted into a tactile culinary experience and one of the most in-demand reservations on the island. Pearly condensation drips down a cocktail glass, a perfectly seared scallop melts in the mouth and a symphony of chefs perform in the open kitchen – the vibe here is nothing short of electric. There’s no camera crew or countdown clock, but you still feel the tension, the timing and the sense that perfection is the only acceptable outcome.

In a landscape of barefoot beach clubs and casual coastal dining, Hell’s Kitchen Ibiza introduces something different to Ibiza. The interiors carry the theatrical language of the show. A metallic reception desk glimmers while the show’s trident logo looms overhead. Textured black tiles glint in the shadows, and the curved cocktail bar holds court beneath a hovering gold canopy. Digital flames curl up one column and even the ceiling seems to undulate, shifting in light from crimson to deep plum. At Hell’s Kitchen Ibiza, mood is part of the mise en place.
The glistening, circular bar entices guests to begin their evening at Hell’s Kitchen Ibiza with cocktails. The list features signature libations found in most of the Hell’s Kitchen restaurants such as the Notes from Gordon – dry gin, green tea, lemongrass, peach and a message from Gordon himself. Other cocktails worth noting are the Obligatory Pink Drink – vodka, fresh grapefruit, Peychaud, Pamplemousse cordial and pink peppercorn, or the Red Eye Old Fashioned with bourbon, demerara gomme, hints of tobacco leaf and roasted coffee.
Additionally, there are three unique cocktails created specifically for Hell’s Kitchen Ibiza. The Unexpected Sour is bright and balanced, with añejo cut with citrus and a hit of Licor 43. The Rosie Afumata leans more savoury, made with vodka, smoked olive oil, fresh tomato, a rim of tajín salt. Then there’s the Thyme Traveler, with thyme-infused tequila finished with hierbas Ibicencas and a Rioja float. Each one arrives exactly as it should – sharp, perfectly chilled, and built to hold its own against the fiery attitude of the food to come.
The menu at Hell’s Kitchen Ibiza is grounded in the TV show’s greatest hits – think butter-poached lobster risotto, the ever-dramatic beef Wellington and the world-famous sticky date pudding. In addition to these showstoppers are a range of starters including short rib and chorizo croquetas and hellfire scarlet prawns with crispy garlic – enough to keep all manner of devils away – and a selection from the raw bar such as a sirloin tartare prepared old-school style with an egg yolk; spicy hamachi crudo with fresh mango and jalapeño; or oysters on the half-shell with a variety of sauces.
Mains feature popular plates such as the crispy skin salmon with sticky rice and green curry; the succulent Hell’s Kitchen double smashburger with hellfire aioli; and delicious grilled octopus with white bean puree, crunchy potatoes and chimichurri. Delectable sides include the iconic rich and golden mac and cheese, and there are a host of optional add-ons like lobster tail, foie gras and truffle jus to add just that little bit of extra gastronomic drama to your favourite dish. Every bite is calibrated for impact and potency and one thing’s for sure: you won’t go home hungry.

There are also ten new dishes that have been developed specifically for the Ibiza kitchen, championing local produce and inspired by cooking techniques from the region. The Hell’s Kitchen Ibiza scallops land with subtle yet searing heat; grilled branzino falls apart at the touch of a fork and braised short ribs come served with a tortilla Española, spinach, crispy onions and a syrupy red wine demi-glace that will make you want to lick the plate clean! Just be sure to save room for the Basque cheesecake – a sweet indulgence with a caramelised exterior and creamy, pillowy interior.
The wine list at Hell’s Kitchen Ibiza strikes a balance between the classics and the unexpected. Bottles have been curated to match the layered richness of the menu, with a focus on bold reds and mineral-driven whites. There’s a handful of natural wines, a few local favourites, and several heavyweight bottles for those looking to linger longer than planned – whether on a date night, or for a group celebration. And of course, before, during, and after dinner you can continue working your way through that impressive cocktail menu.
Service is tight but unfussy, with Ramsay’s insistence on restraint and discipline permeating the team from reception to waiter to chef. There’s a current running through the room, subtle, focused and unrelentingly exact. Hell’s Kitchen Ibiza is designed to sharpen your appetite before the night takes you elsewhere – somewhere unexpected, perhaps…
