It’s hard to explain what actually happens at the old Sant Jordi horse-racing track on Saturday mornings throughout the off-season, but as far as social gatherings go, this market is pretty much the epicentre for Ibiza. Stallholders arrive at Hipódromo de Sant Jordi from 6am to find and set up their spot, and anyone with a car and some bits to sell is welcome (though you need to pre-book your stall space online).
A healthy mix of shopkeepers looking to offload last season’s stock, genuine vintage pieces at a discounted price and plenty of random folks with even more random cast-offs – there’s always a bargain to be had and as the saying goes, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure! The best sausage sandwiches on the island, a cheap and cheerful bar running all morning, and enough drummers, DJs and ecstatic dancers to rival Benirrás combine to make the morning even more entertaining. An island institution.
