Editor's tip

If you want a table at Jondal, tell chef Rafa Zafra we sent you! Kidding - there's no name dropping here. You need to plan quite far in advance to score a table at this 'it restauarant' – and yes, it lives up to the hype.

Of all the party beaches in the world, Cala Jondal is up there among the best of them, and the yacht-hopping glitterati know it — they descend on this southern stretch of Ibiza’s coastline like hungry bees to honey, especially in peak summertime when the fiestas come as thick and fast as sunset. Many arrive by super yacht, mooring just offshore and then hopping aboard a zodiac that delivers them to the nearest sun bed; others come by car, snaking through the lush green hills dotted with villas before the beguiling blue-green horizon unfurls before them.

Both are met by an Ibiza beach that’s backed by towering cliffs and pine trees, and – this might come as a surprise – elliptical, dove-coloured pebbles that plunge towards the sparkling waterline. But there’s sand too – some of it naturally occurring, the rest artfully placed by the Ibiza beach’s exclusive restaurants that go above and beyond to please.

It’s these same Ibiza beach clubs that have made Cala Jondal a must-visit destination on Ibiza. Effortlessly merging relaxation, fabulous food and a feel-good, party vibe, they embody the convivial white isle spirit from day through to night, an art that the island’s party lovers find hard to resist.

Who goes there?
Long-limbed fashionistas, celebrities and champagne-popping yacht owners are all regulars at Cala Jondal, which is no surprise considering it’s home to the island’s most exclusive beach clubs. Nevertheless, there’s always a dedicated local contingent in attendance at this Ibiza beach too — families just tend to head towards the Ibiza beach’s quieter, southern end, which feels worlds away from the nearby celebrations.

Best time to go?
When it’s time to hunker down for one of those long, leisurely lunches that the Mediterranean lifestyle is so famous for. Arrive in the early afternoon and then once a few glasses of rosado have taken hold, see where the rest of the day takes you. As you’d expect, Cala Jondal is also an excellent Ibiza beach for sundowners (though you won’t actually see the sun disappearing), and great fun at night, when DJs replace the sound of the waves with house and techno.

Where to eat and drink
Take your pick from some of the very best Ibiza beach clubs, all boasting sea views but with diverse atmospheres. Blue Marlin is the original party destination and the air here is heavy with glitz and glamour throughout the day. Yemanja is its more laid-back neighbour, where alfresco seaside lunches are always memorable. Casa Jondal is an über-trendy new-ish addition to the lineup, and is already a favourite among visiting superstar DJs, while Tropicana is a low-key beach club where you’re more likely to find locals than luxury hunters. Try Es Xarcu further round the coast for a more traditional Ibiza beach restaurant experience. Be sure to make reservations in advance for each venue and get ready to splash that cash.

White Ibiza loves
Ordering round after round of piña coladas at Tropicana, where straw parasols shade you from the sun and a specially made jetty delivers you directly to the refreshing depths of the glittering Med. Throw in a relaxing beachside massage and you’re set.
