Created by Austrian duo Andi Lackner and Andreas Oberkanins, Finca Legado is a bed and breakfast like no other in Ibiza.

One of the loveliest things about Ibiza is the many owner-operated boutique hotels dotted around the island. These establishments are a breath of fresh air, providing the kind of service that feels much more personalised than a big hotel. While you may forgo some of the bells and whistles of a bigger property, you gain an unpretentious sense of feeling at home. Finca Legado is one such place. A stunning bed and breakfast nestled along the road leading into Santa Eulalia, it’s a hidden gem by design – easy to miss if you’re not looking, but unforgettable once discovered.

Finca Legado was born from the creative minds of owners and life partners Andi Lackner and Andreas Oberkanins. Both Austrian by birth, the pair share a deep love and respect for Ibiza’s natural beauty, rich history, exciting gastronomy and unique culture – a passion that’s evident in every corner of the 18th century farmhouse and grounds. Designed as an adults-only boutique experience, guests are welcomed onto the grounds by Gino, an adorable Jack Russell terrier and Finca Legado’s unofficial ambassador. He’s unlikely to show you around however, being a very busy little fellow with lizards to chase and sun traps to lie in, but luckily Andi and Andreas are always on hand to provide a personal tour.

Even during the island’s hottest days, stepping into Finca Legado feels like entering a luxurious oasis. “First and foremost, this is our home,” says Andreas. “That was the spark. We wanted to create a place that we ourselves would love to stay.” The terrace is a lush paradise, with vibrant green tropical plants, the bright pinks of bougainvillea and the vivid oranges of birds of paradise. Enormous sunbeds encircle the glistening pool, while tables sit shaded beneath parasols and palm-thatched pergolas, in the distance, the forested hills of Santa Eulalia rise majestically. It’s hard to believe that this magical hideaway is just minutes away from one of Ibiza’s most bustling towns. The seclusion is real, but the convenience is unparalleled.

Every guest room has its own unique character, with no single motif repeated throughout the property – all the more reason to stay at Finca Legado again and again. One room is inspired by the countryside, while another features religious iconography, and then, there’s the artichoke suite, inspired by Andi’s love for the edible Mediterranean thistle. “I love artichokes, so I just had to do something with that idea,” he says. It’s quite possible that Andi doesn’t see the entire picture of what he has created, otherwise, he would be as awestruck as every first-time guest. Each and every room is exquisitely designed, with bespoke wallpaper, vintage furnishings, fine linens, soft throws and stunning artwork adorning the walls.

Breakfast at Finca Legado is nothing short of a culinary obsession for Andreas, who commandeers the kitchen. Eggs, freshly collected from the finca’s hens, are prepared to your liking and served over avocado on wholegrain or sourdough toast. Boards groan under the weight of cheeses and Spanish charcuterie, while organic yoghurt pots are topped with seasonal fruits and spiced roasted nuts, and hot porridge or cooling Bircher comes with fresh juice and steaming coffee. True to his Viennese roots, Andreas also serves a sweet breakfast of delicious pastries and homemade jams. Throughout the day, the poolside snack menu offers everything you need to stay satisfied between meals, including cocktails, wine and Andreas’ signature homemade cakes, baked daily.

Each of the rooms at Finca Legado has been meticulously crafted by Andi, whose background in styling, fashion and events is apparent in every detail. “So much of what I used in the rooms are things we’ve collected in the last 30 years of travelling and just living,” he says. “It really is like we brought our home over from Austria and expanded it.” The design and decoration process came to him quickly, as if the house itself was telling him exactly what it wanted. Andi personally designed the wallpapers, fabrics and even some of the furniture, which he had a local welder build to his specifications.

While the allure of the wonderful coves and beaches of Ibiza, a plethora of dining options, cute villages, nightclubs, beach clubs and bars is outside the gates of Finca Legado, it’s not surprising that many guests rarely leave the premises after checking in. “A lot of people call up asking for day passes, but the space here is just for our guests,” says Andreas. “Preserving their privacy and peace is essential.” The charm of this delightful bed and breakfast lies not in perfection but in Andi and Andreas’ vision of what comfort should be. Arriving at Finca Legado is like a deep breath of pure relaxation and beauty – a genuinely heart-warming place that feels just like your very own, very stylish, Ibiza home.
