For those with a taste for the brash and brazen party scene, the west coast is happy to provide
The west boasts a diverse topography with the vineyards of San Mateu, the almond groves and breathtaking clifftops of Santa Agnes, and the rugged coastline of Cap Negret and Punta Galera. For those with a taste for the brash and brazen party scene, San Antonio is happy to provide.
Some of Ibiza’s most iconic beaches dazzle on the south coast with Cala Conta, Cala Bassa, Cala Tarida, and Cala Vadella, offering stunning daytime scenery and spectacular sunsets while the mystical and majestic Es Vedrá is a magnet for quality holiday snaps.
ABOUT THE WEST
Once you’ve witnessed the magical light, epic sunsets, and stunning scenery of the island’s west, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a living postcard. With crystal-clear waters, it’s a swimmer’s paradise and wine aficionados will be thrilled to find it’s also home to some of the island’s finest vineyards.
WHEN TO VISIT
The sun always sets in the west of course, and the best time to catch it melting into the sea is from June to October. Annual events include January’s Flower Power festival in San Antonio, the traditional pintxo food festival in February – around the same time the almond blossoms come out to settle like snowflakes over the countryside in Santa Agnes.
MUST-SEE
There’s nothing quite like being in the water as the sun sinks into the sea at your eye level and it’s outstanding from the staggered rock formations at Punta Galera where the brave take the flying jump from the highest rock into the sea below. In February, the almond blossoms of Sant Agnes dust the surrounding fields in a flurry of snowflake petals.
MUST-DO
The full moon walk through the almond blossoms in February is an annual pilgrimage for many, as is the San Mateo wine festival in October, when local winemakers get together in the local school basketball court to compare the season’s latest drops – for free!
WHO YOU'LL MEET
San Antonio might have the reputation for the raucous Brits abroad crowd but along with the party people, old-timer expats and seasonal workers, you’ll find a slice of authentic Ibiza too. The national park zones are resplendent with stunning forest walks and a burgeoning food scene in addition to a slew of five-star hotels bringing the west into the limelight and attracting wellness-oriented jet-set.
