One of the most wonderful things about winter in Ibiza is getting the chance to explore the many treasures that lie beyond its hedonistic summer reputation. From the raw beauty of the island’s abundant nature to the endless creativity of its residents, there’s always something, someone and somewhere to discover. This Friday, at the charming and historic cultural centre Far de ses Coves Blanques in San Antonio, Ibiza-based artist Malvina Kang Hughes gives islanders the opportunity to immerse themselves in both creativity and nature, with the opening of her exhibition Arc of Truth.
Taking inspiration from a meditation where no thinking, no memory, no impressions and no time exists, Malvina expresses her truth on canvas while painting in the great outdoors, exposed to and accepting the elements, creating alongside the sun, wind, earth and rain as they bring additional life and depth to her work. The resulting paintings are her honest representation of being ‘in the moment’, a representation of her acceptance of the ever-changing dance between nature and herself. The insightful exhibition features 25 completely unique, large-scale pieces – some touched by the rain, others crumpled in the wind or cracked by Ibiza’s blazing sunlight – created using an intuitive, rhythmic and uninhibited technique that allows Malvina to move beyond thoughts, feelings and emotions in her perception of life’s journey towards the truth.
The official opening takes place from 6.30pm, and afterwards, the exhibition remains on display until January 25, 2025, with Far de ses Coves Blanques open for viewings from Monday to Saturday from 5pm until 8pm, with an additional showing between 10am and 2pm on Saturdays.
