From the expansive sands of Es Figueral to the semi-enclosed cove of Cala Olivera, the eastern region of Ibiza encompasses some of the island’s most striking coastlines. You’ll also find a buzzing culinary scene, loads of activities and plenty of space for relaxation catering to everyone from boho-wellness types to on-the-go families and loved-up couples.
Lush farmlands surround the quaint hamlet of San Carlos near the famous Las Dalias market, restaurant, and club. The velvety shores of Cala Llenya, Cala Pada, Cala Martina and Cala Nova are beautifully juxtaposed by the sweet and petite Cala Mastella.
ABOUT THE EAST
Ibiza’s third-largest resort bursts with laidback vibes and a buzzing holiday atmosphere. It’s a vibrant playground where you can indulge in everything from sun-soaked beaches to lively bars, gourmet dining, thrilling water sports, shopping, and family fun, all without ever stepping beyond its sun-drenched shores and lush countryside.
WHEN TO VISIT
If you’re up early (or still out very late), sunrise on the east coast is something to behold across all the seasons. Summer is when all the action is, with myriad water sports on offer and just as many spots for alfresco dining. While the cooler months are blissfully quiet, the surrounding country provides some beautiful scenery for rambling and ambling.
MUST-SEE
Make time to stroll up the cobbled pathway to the 16th century fortified church of Puig de Missa. The views are spectacular, and the nearby Ethnographic Museum contains a charming exhibition of artifacts housed in a replica peasant home. There’s a pack of bronze native Podenco dogs at the end of the pedestrianised boulevard near the white sand beach which make for Instagram worthy photo ops.
MUST-DO
Beach bumming around the east is a quintessential Ibiza experience and for a bit of hippy history stop by Las Dalias Hippy Market for a goldmine of artisanal goodies. Wind your way to San Carlos, where a snack at the iconic Bar Anita’s is essential, followed by a stroll through the village, ice cream in hand. Wellness gurus occupy most corners of the island, but the east has a plethora or healers and retreats on offer. As night falls, head back to Las Dalias for a truly local clubbing experience at Akasha.
WHO YOU'LL MEET
The east is still populated by a strong farming community, and you’ll catch these weather-worn folk in the early morning grabbing their carrajillos at the local bars dotted along the freeway before they tootle off in their ancient Citroens. Dotted throughout the villages, towns and along the shoreline, you’ll find families picnicking on the beaches, wisened hippies proselytising from their converted vans, young and buff fitness freaks bio-hacking their way across the island and sun-worshipping retirees.
