On an island where romance and nature intertwine, Mireya Estévez of Aurea Floral Studio is the creative floral designer who transforms blooms into living works of art for Ibiza weddings and special events. From cascading ceremony arches overlooking stunning infinity pools with Mediterranean backdrops and elegant tablescapes layered with delicate colour and texture, to bridal bouquets that are more like individual works of art, each and every design is completely bespoke to the couple or client.
Excelling in her role that is part creative and another part scientific and even a dash of alchemic, floristry wasn’t originally on the cards for Mireya. Originally from Barcelona, she arrived on the island in the summer of 2008, in search of a new chapter. In need of a job, she accepted a position in a florist’s studio, learning on the job as she went along – from selling in local flower markets to working at weddings. What began as an unexpected opportunity quickly blossomed into a lifelong passion, and when the opportunity to take over the space arose, Mireya rose to the challenge and Aurea Floral Studio was born.
Today, Mireya and her dedicated team are considered the island’s most respected floral designers, and their wildly creative work speaks for itself. Every Ibiza wedding is approached as a unique project at Aurea Floral Studio, meticulously planned up to a year in advance and each experience begins with a detailed consultation. Collaborating with the finest venues, event planners and discerning couples, the team pay utmost attention to every last detail, before devising mood boards and creating table trials as they fuse their clients’ visions with nature’s bounty – the very definition of living art.
Some couples arrive with a clear vision, while others bring only inspiration and a feeling they hope to capture. From there, Aurea Floral Studio carefully shapes the entire floral story of the day – from contemporary sculptural ceremony arches and petal-lined aisles petal-strewn tablescapes and even the smallest details such as buttonhole flowers for groomsmen. Mireya’s expertise lies in knowing exactly which petals will thrive in Ibiza’s climate, how each variety opens and precisely when to cut tropical stems arriving from Ecuador and Colombia, delicate varieties travelling from Holland, Thailand or South Africa and beyond – an essential skill when handling the complex logistics of large-scale events.
Mireya is the creative heart of Aurea Floral Studio, however she is the first to emphasise the importance of having a team around her. Creative producer Silvina Bender works closely alongside Mireya on each event, from the first consultation through to the final installation, in addition to a hand-picked crew who appreciate just how much love and care goes into each event. When flowers arrive exactly when they’re needed or the precise number of stems somehow appear just in time, the team often smile and think about how Aurea continues to watch over them.
Named for Mireya’s grandmother, Aurea Floral Studio has an additional touch of sentimentality – Mireya says Aurea’s spirit can be felt guiding the team through the unpredictable magic of working with nature. Sometimes, the perfect shade of petals bloom exactly when they’re needed or the precise number of stems somehow suddenly appear just in time. When the final arch is built, petals glow in the warm evening light and the ceremony space comes to life, Mireya and the team can bask in the moment as the happy couple say their ‘I dos’ surrounded by botanical beauty that feel as magical as Ibiza itself.
