It’s hard to explain what actually happens at the old San Jordi horse-racing track on Saturday mornings throughout the winter, but as far as social gatherings go, this market is pretty much the epicentre for Ibiza in the off-season. Stallholders arrive at Hipódromo de San Jordi from 6am to find and set up their spot, and anyone with a car and some bits to sell is welcome (though you need to pre-book your stall space online).
A healthy mix of shopkeepers looking to offload last season’s stock, genuine vintage pieces at a discounted price and plenty of random folks with even more random cast-offs – there’s always a bargain to be had and as the saying goes, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure! The best sausage sandwiches on the island, a cheap and cheerful bar running all morning, and enough drummers, DJs and ecstatic dancers to rival Benirrás combine to make the morning even more entertaining. An island institution.
